The COSAFA bound Uganda Cranes team began training
on Tuesday under the watchful eye Police FC tactician Abdallah Mubiru at
He was joined by former Cranes skipper and record
goal scorer in the Afcon/World Cup qualifiers Geoffrey Massa as well as
goalkeeper coach Sadiq Wassa.
In his first interview, Mubiru whose recent national
team experience was with the Hippos way back in 2012 talked about working with
Massa, his assistant Morley Byekwaso who missed drills just KCCA players who
were on a trophy parade and the mission in Cosafa.
On working with Massa;
I am happy to work with them, Massa is a big name in Uganda’s football, I am happy for his return because football has been missing him, he has a lot to share with young lads.
On Morley Byekwaso;
Morley Byekwaso is my long-time colleague; we played together did everything together, so I hope the best with them and eager to start working with them.
On his brief appointment;
I will learn new things, increase my proficiency and gain new experience just as any person who is hopeful of going higher. I am just happy and proud of it because I am going to prepare the team for the 2020 African Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifiers; I only embrace the opportunity given to me.
On the target at COSAFA;
My main target is to perform better in COSAFA by putting up good performances in the tournament which will earn us respect as coaches, players and the nation at large.
On Wednesday, Mubiru will have KCCA players join the training as he prepares the team for a regional tour game away to Western Uganda at Bushenyi.
COSAFA kicks off on May 25 in South Africa but Uganda will only start the campaign at the quarterfinals against Lesotho.
