Cape Town City on Wednesday strengthened their technical team ahead of next season, with Dutch goalkeeper coach Sjoerd Woudenberg having signed a two year contract with the club.
The 32 year-old Pro Licence coach spent the past few years in the Dutch Eredivisie with Go Ahead Eagles, and City’s chairman John Comitis says they are excited to have him on board.
Comitis says that Woudenberg will fit right in with coach Benni McCarthy’s ethos, and they are looking forward to the new season.
Comitis feels that Woudenberg will help take City’s Dutch goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh and his deputy Sage Stephens to new levels.
Meanwhile, Comitis has wished club captain Thamsanqa Mkhize the best with Bafana Bafana at the Afcon finals in Egypt.
Comitis was also happy to see Keanu Cupido and Gift Links star for the nation at the Cosafa Cup, though he is a little concerned after Cupido’s injury.
City will return to pre-season training in the last week of June, in preparation of the 2019/2020 Absa Premiership season. – Report by Rob Delport
