Injuries, better preparations force Elgon Cup leg changes #Uganda

By DEUS BUGEMBE

Four changes have been implemented by Rugby Cranes coach Robert Seguya for the return leg of the Elgon Cup tomorrow at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
Byron Otekayot and Maxwell Ebong were part of the 23 that pulled off a famous 16-13 win against Kenya at Mamboleo Showgrounds, Kisumu but injury has ruled the pair out of tomorrow’s tie. Half back Robert Masendi and centre Jordan Bongomin are also out.

The developments have opened doors for the Phillip Wokorach, Michael Wokorach and Ivan Magomu, who missed the first leg having not met the set-up’s training requirements.
“Otekayot and Ebong are injured, meaning we needed reinforcement while Magomu and the ‘Wokorachs’ had better training than it was the case prior to the first leg,” said Seguya.

Uganda carry a three-point advantage with hope of winning a first Elgon Cup title since 2015. Having largely fielded an U-20 side in Kisumu, Kenya have also made eight changes with Andrew Amonde, Jacob Ojee, Curtis Lilako and Melvin Thairu some of the key changes. With first leg coach Paul Odera away in Brazil for the 2019 World Rugby U-20 Trophy, backs coach Albertus Van Buuren will be boss assisted by Thomas Odundo.
Uganda last won in 2015 and are 80 minutes away from a fourth title should they hold on and protect their advantage.
