FIFA suspends Ugandan FA president Moses Magogo #Uganda

Football governing body, FIFA has suspended Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President Moses Magogo for two months over the illegal sale of 2014 World Cup Tickets.

The Ethics committee on Thursday revealed that an investigation into the Ugandan FA president was opened on 23 July 2018 in relation to the resale of 2014 FIFA World Cup tickets.

The committee further revealed that Magogo had entered a plea bargain that has been ratified by the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber.

The plea bargain, based on art. 67 par.1 of the FIFA Code of Ethics, sees Moses Magogo fined 37 Million Ush and is forbidden from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level for two months.

Moses Magogo had during the annual FUFA general assembly shocked delegates when he announced that he would be stepping down for two months.

It was then that first vice president Justus Mugisha took over duties as interim President of the Federation.

From the statement released, Magogo will return to office on the 10th of December 2019 after his sanctions expire.

An investigation into Mr Magogo was opened on 23 July 2018 related to the resale of 2014 FIFA World Cup™ tickets. The statement reads;

The chairman of the adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee has ratified the plea bargain entered into by Mr Moses Hassim Magogo, President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations and member of the Confederation of African Football Executive Committee, and the chairperson of the investigatory chamber.

In accordance with art. 67 par.1 of the FIFA Code of Ethics, the parties have mutually agreed on the following sanctions:

A fine of CHF 10,000.
A two-month suspension from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level.
The suspension became effective upon the validation of the agreement by the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber on 10 October 2019.

The case against Magogo to FIFA was filed by Makindye West Member of Parliament, Allan Ssewanyana.

Ssewanyana, also the chairman of Katwe United Football Club, an entity in the FUFA Big League and the shadow Minister for Sports in the opposition government petitioned FIFA regarding the way Magogo handled the 2014 World Cup tickets allocated for Uganda.

The petition was filed on 30th May 2017 to the FIFA Ethics and Integrity Committee, accusing the person of Magogo for violation and breach of the FIFA statutes, code of ethics and disciplinary code, under the articles 13, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22.
