Fresh off their midweek misery, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League, Newcastle return to action this weekend as they host Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup quarterfinals at St. James’ Park on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Match Overview

Newcastle and Brighton are separated by just a single point in the Premier League, with the Magpies sitting sixth on 44 points, while Brighton are eighth with 43. Now, the two sides face off in a do-or-die knockout clash in England’s oldest cup competition.

To reach the quarterfinals, Newcastle overcame Birmingham City in a thrilling 3-2 victory, courtesy of a Joe Willock brace and a goal from Callum Wilson. In the third round, they defeated lower-league side Bromley 3-1, thanks to goals from Lewis Miley, Anthony Gordon, and Will Osula.

Meanwhile, Brighton knocked Chelsea out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory, thanks to goals from Georginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma. In the third round, they cruised past Norwich with a dominant 4-0 win, with Rutter scoring twice, while Julio Enciso and Solly March also found the net.
